Cypress Bark

Scientific name of Cypress Bark is Aesiotes leucurus

Range; Cosmopolitan.

Description; The adult is a dark grey brown insect, about 2 cm long. Cypress Bark active in spring and summer that feeds on the young the young growth of conifers. The whit larvae, about 2 cm long, feed beneath the bark. On reaching adulthood, they emerge through holes chewed in the bark.

Damage; Young growth is eaten. Shoot tips die. Larvae that chew right around some branches, or even the trunk, Cypress Bark Weevil can cause the death of the tree.

Cypress Bark

Plants Affected; Cypress (cupressus) , false cypress (chamaccyparis) and some other conifers. They are particularly vulnerable to infestation during time of drought.

Prevention and control;

Non-Chemical/organic; Cut back dead growth and water the tree to keep it growing strongly.
